New Trends in Plastic Patio Furniture

Many people hear the term “plastic patio furniture” and instantly think of those cheap plastic chairs you buy at discount stores that blow away in a slight breeze and break whenever Uncle Bob sits down in them. Well, there is a new trend in plastics and resins that are making them absolutely perfect for everyday patio usage.

The newer plastics and resins are being made out of high density polymers and forced into molds to make them look more like natural wood. These aren’t your cheap sets that you find in dollar stores anymore; this is more fashionable and high tech.

The great thing about these new techniques in making plastic patio furniture is the fact that they are not affected by weather. Even the sun won’t harm them as they have been UV treated to resist the harsh radiation that usually turns plastic into a brittle mess. They are also made with the color all the way through the plastic instead of having a layer of color over white or clear plastic like they have in years past. Because the color is all the way through the plastic, you won’t have to worry about it fading when it sits outside.

These higher quality plastics require a high quality of hardware, and therefore, most manufacturers are using stainless steel hardware that is specially treated to withstand the same hardships and adverse conditions as the plastic furniture is.

Now, that is a good thing for people that have some of these heavier plastic pieces, and they can’t move them in and out all the time. You will also be very happy to know that this newer plastic is much heavier than those older skimpy pieces you used to buy. In fact, an Adirondack style chair can weigh as much as 50 pounds!

Since the furniture is heavier, you won’t have to worry about it getting blown off your patio anytime soon. You will also be happy to know that the newer plastics and resins are made up of recycled plastics that can’t be used to make other things. This means you are helping to clean up the environment by simply purchasing a new piece of plastic furniture for your patio.
